MMK A2 605 – The testing of building material concrete

Method MMK A2 605 – The testing of building material concrete

The Construction Products Regulation and the Radiation Protection Act

The testing of dangerous substances – ionizing radiation – in stone-based building material must be made by the producers to comply with the EU Construction Product Regulation No. 305/2011 and the new Swedish Radiation Protection Act (2018: 396).

The testing of dangerous substances – ionizing radiation

Method MMK A2 605 is developed for the manufacturers and the testing of dangerous substances – ionizing radiation – in building material concrete and ballast in accordance with the Construction Product Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 and the new Swedish Radiation Protection Act (2018: 396).

Method MMK A2 605 is accredited by Sweden’s accreditation body Swedac for the testing of rock-based building material. The method’s accreditation applies internationally throughout the EU.

Method MMK A2 605 enables manufacturers of concrete and ballast to ensure that the legal requirements and the trade requirements are met.

The testing of dangerous substances – ionization radiation – in building material according to accredited method MMK A2 605 ensures that the building material is controlled in accordance with the legal requirements.

MMK’s testing of building material within dangerous substances – ionization radiation – is carried out with a non destructive method in accordance with the industry standards SS-EN 206 requirements on test specimen.

The test result is obtained within one week after testing in MMK’s laboratory. The result is reported in terms of activity index, radium index and gamma radiation dose.

The testing of concrete and ballast gives a radiation certificate and a radon certificate

MMK’s accredited test results can be used as a basis for self-checking, government reporting and/or for product certification. The testing of concrete and ballast with method MMK A2 605 provides both a radiation certificate and a radon certificate.

Method MMK A2 605 is proposed by the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) to become a Swedish standard for the testing of dangerous substances – ionizing radiation.
